Infinity Villa: Blending Architecture with Okinawa's Seascape

Satoshi Kurosaki's Design Merges Residence with Nature

Discover the architectural masterpiece that is Infinity, a residence that redefines the concept of a weekend home through its innovative design and integration with the natural landscape of northern Okinawa.

Designed by the acclaimed architect Satoshi Kurosaki, Infinity stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of architecture and nature. This residence, poised atop a hill in Gushiku Mui, offers its inhabitants a unique experience, combining the serenity of mountainous terrain with the expansive views of the ocean. The design's inspiration stems from the desire to create a tranquil retreat away from the client's primary home in Hokkaido, allowing for a change of scenery and a connection with the environment.

Infinity's design boasts several unique properties that set it apart from conventional residential architecture. The entrance garden, an unexpected oasis, welcomes visitors into a space that transitions seamlessly from indoors to outdoors. The heart of the home, a kitchen with a view of a peaceful courtyard, invites natural light and landscape into the culinary experience. The residence's layout, with its living-dining-kitchen area spanning the property's width, culminates in a jacuzzi bathroom that opens up to the outdoors, and an infinity pool that extends into the surrounding natural vista.

The construction of Infinity utilized materials and techniques that reflect the residence's natural surroundings. The exterior finish features cedar wood formwork exposed concrete, while the interior spaces are adorned with walnut flooring and cedar walls, complementing the acrylic emulsion paint and tile. The use of LED lighting throughout the residence ensures an energy-efficient and modern ambiance.

Completed in March 2021, Infinity serves as a villa with a reinforced concrete structure, covering a total floor area of 233.10m2. The design specifications highlight the villa's dual-floor arrangement, with private rooms and an outdoor jacuzzi on the second floor, offering varied perspectives of the breathtaking landscape. An exterior staircase leads to a rooftop terrace, providing an unparalleled 360-degree view that encapsulates the essence of Infinity.

Infinity is not just a residence; it is a reflection of a shifting paradigm in lifestyle choices. As remote work becomes more prevalent, the need for versatile living spaces that can accommodate various functions is on the rise. Infinity embodies this concept, serving as a multi-functional "public home" that can adapt to the evolving needs of its occupants, whether as an office, hotel, guest house, or gallery.

This architectural gem has not gone unnoticed in the design world. Infinity was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category in 2024, a recognition that celebrates its innovative design and contribution to enhancing quality of life. The project, captured through the lens of photographer Masao Nishikawa and videographer Seiya Aoki, showcases the beauty and sophistication of Infinity, cementing its status as a notable achievement in contemporary architecture.
