Twins: A Sculpturesque Seating Solution

Designed by Ece-Oguz Yalim, Twins is a dynamic seating unit for contemporary offices

The challenge for the design team, which included Ece Yalim, Oguz Yalim, and Feride Toprak, was to create a simple, friendly design that could seamlessly blend into various contemporary office designs. The result was Twins, a seating unit that creates a pleasing contrast with its surroundings thanks to its dynamic form and slight angles.

Twins is not just visually appealing, but also functional. The split form of the product creates a surprising visual effect, sparking curiosity about how the parts stand together. The thin metal legs support this visual puzzle, creating a contrast between the bulky body of the seating part and the legs. This gives the top part a floating effect. Despite the separate seating parts being mounted together, they stretch very gently, embracing the human body.

The design realization technology of Twins is also noteworthy. The seating for two is made up of exactly the same split pieces of the unit for one, used at both ends, and an additional flat surface in the middle. This makes it possible to play with the size of the middle part to create different sizes of longer versions without requiring additional casting investment. This design approach helps the producer reach an economical production solution.
