Hakan Gürsu's TAXI station is not just a functional structure; it's a visual statement. The design uses graphic elements both structurally and visually, creating an iconic presence that communicates with urban dwellers on a perceptual level. It stands out, almost like a signage, using a universal language that transforms the 'taxi' metaphor into a public station.
The TAXI station's modern and dynamic identity is a perfect fit for contemporary urban life. The design is adaptable, with two different sizes to suit varying physical conditions. The structure is built using steel profiles, which also serve as signage. LED lighting is incorporated within these parts for night use, enhancing the station's visibility and aesthetic appeal.
But the TAXI station is more than just a visually striking structure. It is also a green building, covered with plants both vertically and horizontally. This not only adds to its visual appeal but also contributes to the city's greenery. Additionally, the station provides an advertising space, helping to offset its expenditures.
Inside, the TAXI station offers a comfortable and safe zone for users and visitors. It includes a waiting lounge, office space, personal cabins for drivers, a lavatory, changing room, storage area, kitchen, and resting area. The electrical and lighting systems are cleverly hidden between the ceiling and the roof, preventing visual pollution. The station also collects rainwater, which is used for the system's water consumption, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.
The TAXI station's unique design and functionality have not gone unnoticed. In 2012, it was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award. This prestigious accolade is given to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's genius and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
