Unveiling the Infinite Steel Stool: A Masterpiece by Fernanda Marques

Exploring the Unique Design and Inspiration Behind the Award-Winning Furniture Piece

Delving into the creation of the Infinite Steel Stool, this article explores the innovative design process and inspiration behind this unique furniture piece by renowned designer Fernanda Marques. The stool, which garnered the prestigious Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2012, is a testament to Marques' dedication to contemporary design and sustainable practices.

The journey towards the creation of the Infinite Steel Stool began at the end of 2010. Fernanda Marques and her team embarked on a quest to incorporate stainless steel into contemporary furniture design. Their goal was to create a more authorial aspect in their interior projects by designing furniture that seamlessly integrated with the overall design.

The Infinite Steel Stool was designed for a young, bold entrepreneur with a passion for art, design, motorcycles, and speed. The result was a multifunctional room where the client could relax and entertain friends. The stool, which can be split into several others, was designed to abolish the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces, thanks to its durable building material.

Each custom-made Infinite Steel Stool is composed of independent modules that fit together, each weighing approximately 22 kg. The stool is made from welded folded steel sheets and internally clad in plywood. The outer finish of the stool is textured to provide a satiny finish, reflecting continuity in its design. The modules fit together without touching, creating a unique visual effect.

Notably, the Infinite Steel Stool is an environmentally friendly design. Stainless steel, the primary material used in the stool, is one of the least environmentally impacting materials in the building industry as it is 100% recyclable.

The project, which started in July 2010 in São Paulo, was completed in December of the same year. The stool was then exhibited at the Mostra Casa Black in July 2011. The design was recognized for its exceptional innovation and contribution to societal wellbeing, earning the Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2012. This award is given to designs that define the aesthetics of an era, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.

In conclusion, the Infinite Steel Stool by Fernanda Marques is a shining example of innovative design and sustainable practices. Its unique design, versatile functionality, and sustainable materials make it a standout piece in contemporary furniture design. The stool's recognition at the A' Design Award further underscores its exceptional design and the genius of its creator, Fernanda Marques.
