The "Taut" Table

A Dining Table Designed by BUTZ + KLUG Architecture

Introduction

The "Taut" Table, designed by BUTZ + KLUG Architecture, is a unique and innovative dining table that reimagines the traditional structure of a table to enhance the dining experience. Inspired by the rituals and significance of dining, this table aims to eliminate the frustrations often associated with conventional tables.

Body

The "Taut" Table stands out with its expressive design, featuring a taut and thin plane with a visually striking surface. Unlike typical tables, where the legs and apron dominate the structure, this table places the legs at the extreme corners, allowing for more spontaneous sitting arrangements and maximum variation of social patterns. By eliminating the apron, the table becomes more comfortable and accentuates the tabletop as a structural element.

BUTZ + KLUG Architecture used traditional woodworking techniques to bring the "Taut" Table to life. The tabletop is made from a veneer crafted from recycled ebony furniture, layered at the filleted edge to enhance the tautness of the material. The legs are painted Maple, adding a touch of elegance to the design. The expandable leaves are attached to one another with a steel spline and held tightly together by rare earth magnets, ensuring the table's structural integrity.

Measuring 3048 mm in length when expanded, with a depth of 990.6 mm and a height of 844.55 mm, the "Taut" Table offers ample space for gatherings and dining experiences.

Conclusion

The "Taut" Table by BUTZ + KLUG Architecture is a testament to the power of design in enhancing everyday experiences. By reimagining the traditional table structure, this dining table creates a visually striking and functional centerpiece for any dining space. Its unique design and attention to detail have earned it the Bronze A' Design Award in 2013, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving quality of life.
