The Shark commode is not just a piece of furniture, but a design that embodies a philosophy. Viktor & Yuriy Kovtun believe that nature is a source of positive emotions and their design reflects this. The Shark commode is simple, fun, and easy to use, mirroring the simplicity and joy found in nature. The designers have intentionally moved away from the pathos and severity often found in furniture design, instead opting for a more cheerful approach.
What sets the Shark commode apart from other furniture is its unique properties. It is designed to bring joy and give the illusion of movement. The production process is simple, requiring only elaborate copiers and sawing at different angles. Traditional materials such as wood, plywood, MDF, and plastic are used in its construction. The commode measures 1552 mm in length, 750 mm in height, and 450 mm in depth.
The design of the Shark commode is a result of careful observation of life and nature. Viktor & Yuriy Kovtun have tried to bring the ideas that flow in front of them to life. The design process was carried out at home and took up to one month for the experimental sample. Despite the simplicity of the design, it was not without its challenges. However, the designers believe that nature assists in overcoming these challenges.
The Shark commode is more than just a storage unit. It is a combination of a closed commode and an open shelf, creating a sense of movement and stability. The use of different surface finishes and colours allows the commode to fit into various interiors. The design gives the illusion of a living being, adding a touch of whimsy to any space.
The Shark commode has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2013. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. The Shark commode is indeed a venerated product and a bright idea that advances art, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
