The Butler: A Stylish Home Organizer and Wall Clock

Organize Your Essentials in Style

The Butler is a unique and innovative design by Curtis Micklish that combines functionality and aesthetics to solve the everyday problem of misplaced keys, wallets, and other essentials. This sleek and handmade piece serves as a home organizer and wall clock, providing a designated spot for your go-to items.

The main inspiration behind The Butler came from Micklish's personal frustration with constantly misplacing his essentials and the resulting messiness they created. Unlike most other items in the home, these essentials lacked a proper home. With this in mind, Micklish set out to create a design that would not only solve the problem of misplaced items but also add a touch of elegance to any space.

The Butler's unique properties lie in its thoughtful design and functionality. It features a top sleeve to hold your wallet and keys, a side slot for your iPhone with a concealed space for the charging cord, and a slide-out walnut piece to accommodate glasses, hats, scarves, or any other go-to item. The backside of the design includes a routed out section for the charging cord and an extension cord, ensuring convenience even if the mounting area lacks a nearby outlet.

Micklish handcrafts each piece of The Butler using a combination of Baltic birch plywood and Black Walnut. One of the design's key considerations was its compatibility with the ever-changing dimensions of iPhones. By integrating a sliding piece, The Butler can adapt to various iPhone versions, accommodating different heights and widths over the years.

The Butler measures 10" x 9" x 2 1/2" and functions as more than just an iPhone dock. It creates a designated space for all your essentials, keeping them organized and easily accessible for your next trip out the door.

The design process for The Butler began in January 2012, with Micklish experimenting with different prototypes. By May 2012, he had finalized the design and started sharing it with design media while producing it. The Butler is a result of Micklish's research into solving a problem he encountered in his own home, aiming to create a modern and functional piece that organizes everyday essentials.

The creative challenge in designing The Butler was finding a way to incorporate five different items into one hidden yet visually pleasing space. Micklish wanted to maintain an organized and minimalist aesthetic while providing a practical solution for organizing essentials.

The Butler has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2013. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The Butler's strong technical characteristics and remarkable level of excellence have garnered positive feedback and admiration.

With The Butler, you can say goodbye to the frustration of misplaced essentials. This beautifully designed piece will hold your keys, iPhone, wallet, glasses, and more, all in one sleek and handmade spot. Hang it by your front door, and everything will be ready to go the next time you leave. Handmade in San Diego, The Butler combines American Black Walnut and Baltic birch to create a functional design that adds elegance to any space.
