House of the Future

Multifunctional Portable House

Imagine a house that can move with you, adapt to your needs, and redefine the concept of home. The House of the Future, designed by Betina Gomes, does just that. This innovative design combines sustainability, mobility, and state-of-the-art technology to create a multifunctional portable house that revolutionizes the way we live.

The House of the Future was inspired by the need to optimize spaces, provide value-for-money, and embrace a sustainable approach. With creative design solutions, the same space can be transformed into multiple living areas, allowing for different activities to take place. In a world where people are constantly on the move, this design offers a new way of crossing frontiers, not only for electronic devices but also for houses.

What sets the House of the Future apart is its ability to change layouts and switch living elements at the touch of a button. This is made possible through the integration of state-of-the-art technology with mobile devices. The house not only accommodates you but also moves with you wherever you need it to be. It challenges the traditional notion that living well is determined by the size of the house and instead focuses on the functionality of its spaces.

The House of the Future is made using green certified wood frame modules and integrated with certified raw materials. It incorporates renewable energy systems with photovoltaic panels, rainwater collecting systems, power-saving electronic appliances, LED lighting, and a solar heating water system. These features make it not only eco-friendly but also energy-efficient.

Operating the House of the Future is a breeze with its remote control system. Through mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and notebooks, users can connect to the center control system that operates appliances, furniture, heating systems, alarm systems, lighting systems, and CATTV monitoring.

The House of the Future project started in early 2012 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and has been exhibited in various design and architecture events, including Casa Cor Porto Alegre, Casa Cor Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo Design Week, and Pense Imoveis Salon. The design was based on extensive research, including field research, client feedback, and studies conducted in international design schools. It also drew inspiration from real estate trends and experiences gathered from international trips.

The House of the Future faced several challenges during its development. The compact design, which offers a wide range of living areas in just 32 sqm, required creative solutions to accommodate different functionalities. Additionally, the limited sponsorship and financial support available in the Brazilian market, along with the lack of skilled professionals to provide technical support for the new technologies used in the design, posed significant challenges.

This groundbreaking design has received recognition for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2013 in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The House of the Future showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
