Man Hing Bistro: A Modern Casual Dining Experience

Distinctive Design Inspired by Stripes and Angularity

Man Hing Bistro, located in the Nan Shan area of Shenzhen, is a casual dining restaurant that offers a menu inspired by Hong Kong tea culture. Designed by Chi Ling Leung of MILLWORK, this restaurant stands out with its unique use of stripes and angular patterns.

The first floor of Man Hing Bistro is connected to the ground level entrance by a staircase, and it is in this space that the design truly shines. The angularity of the layout served as the inspiration for the design, with stripes composed into triangular patterns that are distinctive throughout the restaurant.

The use of milky brown seating and timber/black mirror finishes creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. However, it is the aluminum stripes that wrap along the staircase and lead to the cashier counter that truly catch the eye. This eye-catching feature adds a touch of modernity and sophistication to the overall design.

The realization of this design involved the use of various materials. Timber, black mirror, milky brown vinyl, and aluminum stripes were carefully selected to bring the designer's vision to life. The combination of these materials creates a harmonious blend of textures and colors that enhance the overall aesthetic of the space.

With an area of 6000 square feet, Man Hing Bistro offers ample space for diners to enjoy their meals in a comfortable and stylish environment. The design team, led by Chiling Leung as the director and Raymond Ng as the designer, worked diligently to ensure that every aspect of the design met their high standards of quality and functionality.

The project, which began in August 2012, was completed in January 2013 in Shenzhen, China. Since its completion, Man Hing Bistro has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2014, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.

Man Hing Bistro is not just a place to enjoy a meal; it is an experience that combines art, design, and culinary delights. With its unique use of stripes and angular patterns, this modern casual dining restaurant sets itself apart and offers a truly memorable dining experience.
