Palm Springs - strikingly simple

An overall minimalist theme allows the few outstanding features to stand out and catch the eye in this space. This four-floor home was given a unified makeover by Tik Chan form Studio 93. The designer had a lot to work with but, in accord with the owner’s tastes, Chan kept things simple with the occasional design feature prominently catching the eye. The entrance of the home leads straight into the high-ceilinged living room where white tones predominate and complement the natural light that streams in form the sliding glass doors and the skylight above. A simple glass and wood staircase stands out at the front of the room while in the lounge area things become slightly more multidimensional. This multidimensionality is brought about by elements such as the flower-resembling designer pendant light and the strikingly large grey and black splash-patterned wall mural. A grey carpet on the floor of the lounge also complements the wall mural, while the mock animal-print lounge chair and the wood and glass coffee table work in tandem with the staircase and the pendant light as well. Though multi-layered and slightly more complex than the rest of the simply-designed room, the lounge area also features a minimalist television arrangement, with a basic reflective television cabinet highlighted by recessed lights underneath.

The main feature wall paper is highlighting the 14feet height ceiling level; the concept of the wall paper pattern is an artistic signature as Tik Chan believes this project would be his signature piece. The simple white wall with grey mirror TV cabinet makes big contrast with the wall paper feature, and it creates a strong focal point in this house. The led lighting under the stairs brings your eyes to the upper level and highlights the beautiful structure of the stairs.
