SEA Chaise-Longue: A Design Beyond Form and Function

A Unique Expression of Dematerialization

The SEA Chaise-Longue, part of the Vessel Collection, designed by Fabrizio Alborno, breaks away from traditional furniture design by prioritizing substance over form. With its disassembled structure and visible joints, this chaise-longue challenges the conventional notions of aesthetics and functionality.

The SEA Chaise-Longue is the epitome of a design philosophy centered around dematerialization. Its form, characterized by massive tubular metal and wooden panels bolted together with visible joints, takes center stage. The entire structure is completely disassembled, with each element traceable to its original state.

The main structure of the chaise-longue is built using varnished square or cylindrical metal tubings, while the wood panels feature a 100% natural beeswax finish. The painted iron frame is available in brick red, dove gray, and anthracite colors. The shelves are made of wood strips in natural oak, mahogany, and wenge, and the pillows are crafted from brown cotton.

What sets the SEA Chaise-Longue apart is its commitment to simplicity and recyclability. The design aims to create a product that goes beyond practical and aesthetic goals, emphasizing a seamless plastic art. The weight of the structure is intentionally incorporated as part of the object's substance. Every element of the chaise-longue is easily identifiable and can be dismantled, making it fully recyclable.

Fabrizio Alborno overcame creative and technical challenges by sourcing readily available structural elements and panels from the market. By utilizing commercial materials, the design achieves a harmonious blend of functionality and artistic expression.

The SEA Chaise-Longue has garnered recognition in the design community, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that showcase ingenuity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

Experience the SEA Chaise-Longue and immerse yourself in a design that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting you to appreciate the beauty of dematerialization and the power of simplicity.
