Julia: A Masterpiece of Craftsmanship and Design

Mariel Nina Lazo's Award-Winning Accent Chair

The Julia chair was inspired by a circular paper armlet, playfully twisted and bent like a mobius strip. This whimsical form was then paired with ash wood slats, typically used as wall and accents, to create a unique and striking piece of furniture.

What sets the Julia chair apart is its meticulous design process. Ash wood slats were carefully arranged in a radial array, supported by two worn black iron bars and screws. Each element of the chair was thoughtfully considered, from the number and sizes of each wood slat, to the gaps in between, the distance between the inner and outer bars, and even the holes on the slats. The result is a chair that is not only visually stunning, but also comfortable and sturdy.

The Julia chair is a testament to the power of collaboration. Despite the technical challenges and tight deadline, Mariel Nina Lazo and the team at Triboa Bay Living were able to bring this design to life. Their hard work and determination paid off when the chair was showcased at the Manila Fame Show in October 2015.
