The couple's desire for an open, uncluttered space led Kwok to knock down the walls of all three bedrooms, leaving only the ones for the kitchen and guest bathroom. This created a loft-like atmosphere, allowing the eyes to run down the entire 37-foot long apartment. The original 11 feet of visibility wall-to-wall was replaced with a seamless flow of space.
One of the unique features of Park Island is the stunning view of Hong Kong's longest suspension bridge, Tsing Ma Bridge. Kwok made sure to capture this view by installing balcony doors that ran the full length of the apartment. This not only brought in natural light but also allowed the residents to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
In addition to the open layout, Kwok incorporated two rows of bookshelves into the design. These bookshelves serve as both storage space and partitions, delineating the living area, working area, and bedroom. By not filling up the shelves completely, light is able to pass through from one room to another, creating a natural brightness throughout the apartment.
Regina Kwok, the mastermind behind Park Island, has created a unique and innovative living space that combines the openness of a loft with the tranquility of a sanctuary. The design not only meets the owners' desire for an escape from the outside world but also showcases the beauty of Hong Kong's landscape.
Park Island was recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
