THR350: A Unique and Inspired Private Residence in Hong Kong

Aedas Designs a Stunning Architectural Masterpiece

Located at a hillside on the Hong Kong Island, THR350 is a nine-storey private residence that stands as a testament to the history and context of Hong Kong. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Aedas, this residential project is inspired by the beauty of a barren rock and a cascading waterfall, resulting in a truly unique and visually striking design.

The design of THR350 draws inspiration from an early image of Hong Kong, where a waterfall poured off a bare cliff, visually dividing it into two parts. This image served as the foundation for the project's facade, which is regimentally controlled in uniform lines and modules, except for the main staircase that punctuates this defined order. The overall design seamlessly blends with the surrounding environment, paying homage to the rich history and natural beauty of Hong Kong.

What sets THR350 apart is its ability to capture the essence of a barren rock and a waterfall in its architectural form. The facade of the building portrays the barren rock with its uniformed lines, while the sculptural staircase represents the cascading waterfall. The staircase is designed as three stacking ice cubes, creating a visually stunning centerpiece that reflects the beauty of a waterfall.

In addition to its unique design, THR350 also caters to the flexibility of future conversions into typical apartment units. This forward-thinking approach ensures that the residence can adapt to changing needs and trends, making it a truly versatile and timeless architectural masterpiece.

The realization of THR350 involved the use of cutting-edge technology and materials. The feature staircase is enclosed by double curved laminated low-iron glass panels, creating a translucent and sculptural element within the building. The external facade utilizes bronze anodized aluminum, providing a soft and warm tone that complements the surrounding landscape. The meticulous attention to detail in material selection and manufacturing processes ensures that the design vision is fully realized.

Designed by Aedas, THR350 is a testament to the firm's expertise and innovation in the field of architecture. The project was a result of extensive research and creative problem-solving, overcoming challenges such as achieving an internal radius of 250mm, a feat not previously accomplished in other buildings. The final product showcases the elegance and sophistication envisioned by the architectural team.

Recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, THR350 was awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2014. This accolade is a testament to the project's exceptional technical characteristics and remarkable artistic skill, evoking positive emotions and a sense of wonder.

THR350 is a true masterpiece that seamlessly blends art, architecture, and design. Its unique inspiration, attention to detail, and commitment to innovation make it a standout residential project in Hong Kong and a symbol of architectural excellence.
