Unlike most restaurants, NUR places nutrition at the core of its culinary art. Nurdin believes that every ingredient's flavor and nutrition should be maximized, and to achieve this, he collaborates with local farmers and food suppliers to ensure the freshest ingredients are used. To further enhance sustainability and reduce carbon footprint, NUR has also created a 900 sq ft editable garden, known as the "sky garden," where they grow their own ingredients and herbs.
The collaboration between Nurdin and J. Candice Interior Architects has resulted in a sophisticated contemporary design inspired by a laboratory theme. Custom-designed elements such as jars of fermented ingredients, glass beakers, and jars reflect the spirit of gastronomy. The interior of the restaurant features a light grey and white color scheme with occasional use of steel and iron. The combination of natural grey wood floors and white walls complements the natural greens and herbs, creating a truly unique and inspiring venue.
The design for NUR emphasizes sustainability and minimalism. The use of wood, veneer, and stainless steel in the construction of the restaurant further enhances its eco-friendly nature. With a total area of 2200 sq ft, NUR provides an intimate and elegant dining space.
At NUR, the focus is on providing customers with the freshest ingredients sourced locally and grown in the restaurant itself. This back-to-basics approach to fine dining ensures a unique and memorable dining experience.
NUR is located in Hong Kong and was completed within a specific timeframe. The design team, consisting of J. Candice Interior Architects, Leo Chiu, and Stephen Ip, overcame challenges in sourcing local building materials to make the project environmentally friendly and sustainable.
NUR's commitment to sustainability and its innovative approach to fine dining have earned it recognition in the design industry. The restaurant was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
