Consistent with the owner's bright and energetic personality, the design of Riverpark revolves around light natural colors and black metal materials. This combination creates a layered effect throughout the space, adding depth and visual interest. One of the standout features is the use of black metal and frosted glass to separate the kitchen and the helper's room. This not only allows natural light to flow into the kitchen but also serves as a unique design element that cannot be ignored.
The open kitchen area posed a challenge in terms of distinguishing the two functional areas – the kitchen and the dining area. To overcome this, the designers opted for two different materials: cement flooring and timber flooring. This clever choice effectively delineates the two spaces while maintaining a cohesive design.
Knowing that the owner and her sister are avid readers, the designers made sure to incorporate ample space for their book collections. The hanging bookshelves, made with metal frames and glass, reduce the visual weight and create a sense of lightness. The shelves are divided into sections of different sizes, with sliding doors featuring grey mirrors, adding a touch of elegance.
In the living area, a white timber veneer covers the entire wall, concealing a door and creating a clean and polished look. This design choice adds a sense of perfection and harmony to the overall apartment.
The realization of Riverpark involved the use of metal, timber veneer, and solid wood. These materials were carefully selected to bring the vintage-inspired design to life while ensuring durability and functionality.
Spanning approximately 180 square meters, Riverpark is a testament to the designers' meticulous attention to detail and their ability to seamlessly blend vintage elements with modern design. The project, which started in August 2013 and was completed in December 2013, is located in Hong Kong.
During the design process, extensive research was conducted on local design elements from the 70s, such as metal and timber detailing. This research helped inform the design choices and ensure authenticity in capturing the vintage aesthetic.
Despite the challenges of incorporating a vintage style into modern materials and details, the designers successfully created a space that pays homage to the past while embracing the present. Riverpark stands as a testament to the power of design to evoke emotions and create a unique living experience.
