Sina Complex: A Unique Approach to Commercial and Administrative Design

Creating a Physical-Visual Quality Inspired by Tehran's Azadi Tower and Barcode

The design process for the Sina Complex was driven by a desire to create a physical-visual quality that harmonizes with the surrounding environment. Recognizing the challenges of noise and air pollution in Tehran, the designers incorporated elements that address these issues. The complex's outer shell is influenced by the barcode, symbolizing international trade, while the Azadi Tower serves as a national symbol and contributes to the overall design.

One of the standout features of the Sina Complex is the use of biological concrete in the shells, which promotes a greener environment and enhances compatibility with the surroundings. Over time, the shells develop a green hue, increasing their chlorophyll content and reducing the visual effects of air pollution. Climbing plants and element gardens are strategically placed throughout the building to filter and stylize the interior air, further improving the overall air quality. Additionally, the green shells produce oxygen, ensuring a fresh and healthy atmosphere inside the complex.

The technical specifications of the Sina Complex are impressive. With a site plan of 2807m2 and a total occupied area of 31694m2, the building stands at a height of 50.70m from the ground level and 75.1m in total. It features 18 floors, including parking, commercial, restaurant, and administrative spaces. The business units cover an area of 4724m2, while the restaurant occupies 666m2 and the administrative units span 4578m2.

The design team, led by Mahdi Mahdavi and Babak Ahangar Azizi, worked tirelessly to bring the Sina Complex to life. They were supported by assistant designer Mahnaz Talebi and Behzad Etebari. The project took place in Tehran, on Azadi Street, from May 5 to June 22, 2013, under the guidance of Towseeh Sina Company.

The Sina Complex offers more than just architectural innovation. It provides a unique experience for visitors, with various viewing points that offer panoramic city vistas. These spaces are surrounded by shells adorned with vegetation and designs, creating a filtered view that reduces the intensity of physical and visual pollution both inside and outside the complex.

The Sina Complex has garnered recognition for its outstanding design. In 2014, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. The Sina Complex stands as a testament to the power of art, science, design, and technology to create a better world.
