Birdies: A Bright Collection of Brooches

Designer Ekaterina Smolina Creates a Series of Brooches Inspired by a Summer Trip to Southeast Asia

Each brooch in the collection is meticulously handmade, using copper and copper wire, along with hot enamels and stained glass enamels. The process involves stamping, trimming, soldering, and engraving intricate patterns on the reverse side of the brooches.

The collection features four unique brooches, each with its own distinct design and size. Brooch number one, made with hot enamels, measures 75mm x 80mm x 10mm. Brooch number two, also made with hot enamels, is smaller at 35mm x 45mm x 10mm. Brooch number three stands out with its stained glass enamels and measures 65mm x 50mm x 10mm. Lastly, brooch number four, made with hot enamels, measures 65mm x 30mm x 10mm.

These brooches are not only visually stunning but also lightweight, thanks to the careful craftsmanship of stamping and soldering. The addition of enamels adds vibrant colors and a cheerful mood to each piece.

The "Birdies" collection was created in Togliatti, Russia, starting in January 2013 and completed in May 2013. It was later exhibited at the Jewelry Olympus in June 2013. Smolina's design reflects her desire to capture the essence of her Asian adventure and inspire others to embrace new experiences and adventures.

The "Birdies" collection has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2015. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, evoking positive emotions and wonder.
