Chinese Landscape Painting: A Villa Inspired by Chinese Culture

A Unique Blend of Fengshui and Chinese Ink Painting

In China, the rich history and culture have deeply influenced the lives of its people. The Chinese Landscape Painting villa, designed by Kris Lin, is a testament to this cultural heritage. Combining the principles of Fengshui and the art of Chinese Ink Painting, this design creates a harmonious and serene living space.

The concept of Fengshui, which emphasizes the connection between people and nature, is highly regarded in China for its positive effects on health and well-being. The Chinese Landscape Painting villa incorporates three essential elements of nature - sunlight, air, and water - into its interior space. The original narrow and long layout of the building is transformed by removing the walls of the exterior atrium and adding a glass skylight, creating an interior atrium that allows for natural light and ventilation.

One of the standout features of this design is the use of Chinese Ink Painting techniques in the interior design. The wall extending from the living room into the atrium is adorned with travertine, representing the distant mountains depicted in traditional Chinese landscape paintings. The pool on the first floor symbolizes the serene lakes found in these paintings. To further enhance the artistic ambiance, an artist was commissioned to paint lotus flowers on the walls and ceiling of the main bedroom, adding a touch of elegance and beauty.

The realization of this design involved careful consideration of the technical aspects. The narrow layout of the original building presented a challenge, which was overcome by the addition of a glass skylight and the removal of walls to create a spacious and open interior atrium. The use of travertine and the incorporation of flowing water in the atrium and SPA pool at the basement further enhance the connection between the design and the natural elements.

The Chinese Landscape Painting villa, located in Hangzhou, China, was completed between May 2013 and August 2013. This project is a testament to the deep-rooted cultural heritage of China and the innovative approach of Kris Lin and his design team. By blending the principles of Fengshui and the art of Chinese Ink Painting, this villa creates a serene and harmonious living space that reflects the beauty of Chinese culture.
