Clinic Co: A Sculptural and Inviting Coffee Shop in Ankara

A Warm and Simple Space Where Art Meets Coffee

The Clinic Co coffee shop in Ankara, designed by Onder Akyazıcı, offers a unique and inviting experience for coffee lovers and art enthusiasts alike. Inspired by simplicity and transparency, this minimalist space combines sculptural design elements with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Located on the same street as the popular Arcadium shopping mall, Clinic Co aims to create a space where shoppers and passersby can gather and connect.

The design of Clinic Co is characterized by its horizontal and unusual architectural structure, which extends invitingly towards the street. The use of sculptural opaque and glass mixed materials allows natural light to penetrate deep into the interior, creating a bright and airy ambiance. The view of queuing, ordering, and sitting is seamlessly integrated with the outside, infusing the space with a vibrant energy.

One of the unique features of Clinic Co is its handmade terrazzo tiles, which are used for both the floors and exterior cladding. These tiles add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space, while also providing durability and easy maintenance. The C bench in the work area, specially designed for coffee workshops, adds a creative and interactive element to the design.

The design of Clinic Co was not without its challenges. The original structure of the venue had the bar area elevated one meter above street level, which posed difficulties for the fast-paced nature of the brand. Lowering the entrance level to zero on a heavily trafficked street required careful planning and execution. However, the result is a space that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings and offers transparency to passersby.

With its ergonomic layout and attention to detail, Clinic Co aims to increase brand awareness and reach new audiences. The interior of the building has been completely rebuilt to create a space that is both functional and visually appealing. By bringing coffee making to the forefront, Clinic Co has successfully increased brand awareness and established itself as a destination for coffee lovers in Ankara.

The Clinic Co project started in January 2020 and was completed in June 2020. It is located in Ankara, Turkey, on the same street as the renowned Arcadium shopping mall. The design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022.
