CareView 1500C: A Stylish and Innovative Digital Flat-Panel Detector

Introducing the CareView 1500C

The CareView 1500C is a digital flat-panel detector designed by Rae Young, a renowned designer in the field of medical equipment. This innovative device offers a visually unique and easily identifiable design, setting it apart from conventional cassette-sized flat-panel detectors. With its modern aesthetics and human-centric approach, the CareView 1500C is revolutionizing the field of diagnostic imaging.

The CareView 1500C stands out with its foldable built-in handle, a first of its kind feature. Made with lightweight aluminum-alloy, the handle provides a comfortable and secure grip during operation. Inside the device, a highly sensitive image sensor is built on a 0.7mm thick glass substrate, measuring 376mm x 452mm. To protect this delicate sensor, all screws holding the internal frame and enclosure are wrapped with rubbers, effectively absorbing and isolating impact energy. The case itself is constructed from a single piece of high-strength aluminum alloy, featuring oversized chamfers around the bottom for added visual appeal.

Production of the CareView 1500C involves a combination of complex modern technologies. This includes amorphous silicon (a-Si) TFT and photodiode fabrication on a large-size substrate, X-ray scintillator (CsI) deposition and packaging, analog and digital signal processing, printed-circuit board fabrication and assembly (PCBs), and an embedded operating system based on power PC architecture. The enclosure and internal uni-body frame of the device are chiseled out of a single piece of high-strength aluminum alloy, while the rubber band is molded directly with the cover plate, forming an inner shock-absorption layer and water-proof seals.

The CareView 1500C boasts impressive technical specifications, including a CsI direct-deposition, TFT/PD active matrix array sensor with a pixel array of 2816 x 2304, resulting in 6.5 million pixels. The active sensing area measures 17" x 14", providing ample space for capturing detailed X-ray radiography images. With a detective quantum efficiency (DQE) of over 65% at 0 lp/mm and over 20% at 3 lp/mm, the CareView 1500C ensures high image quality. It also offers a dynamic range of approximately 15000:1, a noise-equivalent-dose (NED) of around 7 nGy, and an X-ray spectrum range of 40keV to 200keV. Weighing just 3.3 kg and consuming less than 20W of power, this portable device is both lightweight and energy-efficient.

The CareView 1500C is primarily used by medical technicians for X-ray radiography imaging. Its compact size, equivalent to a standard 17" x 14" film cassette, allows for easy insertion into a cassette holder on a typical film radiography system. The built-in automatic trigger senses incoming X-rays and sets up the device to accept X-ray photons, which are then converted into digital images after exposure. A PC connected via a Gigabit Ethernet cable controls and monitors the image acquisition process, displaying the processed images on screen.

The CareView 1500C project was carried out in Suzhou, China, over a year and a half, starting in Q3 of 2012. The design team, led by Rae Young, included Jianqiang Liu (CEO), XiaYin Fu (Mechanical Design Engineer), Jia Chen (Electronics Design Engineer), XianGuo Huang (Engineering Manager), Juan Liu (Software Engineer), Donghua Pan (Mechanical Design Engineer), and Yong Xu (Electronics Design Engineer).

This innovative design has garnered recognition in the industry, winning the Iron A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design category in 2015. The CareView 1500C is celebrated for its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. With its exceptional imaging performance and stylish design, the CareView 1500C is making a significant impact in the field of diagnostic imaging.
