The topography of the land played a crucial role in shaping the design of 11 K Vaks. Taking advantage of the natural contours, the house is divided into three distinct levels. This not only adds visual interest but also creates a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. The use of cutting and filling techniques further enhances the harmony between the structure and the land.
One of the standout features of 11 K Vaks is its sustainable design. The house incorporates rainwater harvesting and underground water storage, effectively utilizing the natural groundwater resources. This eco-friendly approach aligns perfectly with the client's vision and showcases the designer's commitment to responsible architecture.
Upon entering the house, one is greeted with a breathtaking view of the Khadakwasla backwaters. The living area opens up to a panoramic sight, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor spaces. The open plan layout allows for plenty of visually connected areas, creating a sense of openness and flow.
Designed to accommodate three generations of the family, 11 K Vaks offers a well-thought-out arrangement of spaces. The entry level features a porch, living area, dining room, open kitchen, kids' room, and a pool deck. The master bedroom is located on the upper level, while the mother's room is situated on a lower level, ensuring privacy and comfort for everyone.
Completed in 2014, 11 K Vaks is nestled in the outskirts of Pune, an IT hub in western India. The project presented several challenges, including the sloping topography and the client's request for the house to be hidden from the road. However, these challenges became opportunities for the architect to showcase their creativity and innovation.
Recognized for its outstanding design, 11 K Vaks was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that embody resourcefulness, creativity, and technical excellence. With its seamless integration with the natural surroundings and its commitment to sustainability, 11 K Vaks truly exemplifies the best practices in contemporary architecture.
