Crisis is a Greek word: Exhibition Catalogue

A Message of Creativity in Times of Crisis

From the simplicity of ancient handcraft to a modern cultural identity

The Crisis is a Greek word exhibition catalogue, designed by Eleonora Xanthopoulou, captures the essence of Greece's creative response to the ongoing crisis that has affected the country. This unique catalogue showcases the work of 46 top Greek designers who participated in the exhibition, aiming to convey a message of creativity to the world.

The design of the catalogue draws inspiration from the simplicity and clean lines found in ancient Greek handcraft, such as the amphora. By incorporating patterns and elements from ancient Greece, Xanthopoulou creates a modern and innovative catalogue that respects the country's rich cultural heritage while establishing a new cultural identity.

The catalogue features a simple and clean design that presents all the artworks in a modern and creative style. The cover, with its special cuts and implementation of the exhibition's identity, communicates the violent and strict form of "crisis." It visualizes a non-permanent disruption, reflecting the everyday disruptions caused by the crisis.

Technically, the catalogue is bilingual, with 160 pages printed in color on polar munken 120gr paper. The cover is one pantone color, case bound, and made of polar munken rough 300gr paper. The dimensions of the catalogue are 167mm x 15mm x 238mm.

The catalogue not only serves as a guide for the exhibition but also becomes a part of the exhibition itself. It uses an interactive language with the artworks, providing further information about them while following the same style and spirit of the exhibition.

The Crisis is a Greek word exhibition catalogue was a result of a collaborative effort by Eleonora Xanthopoulou, Harry Tzannis (production manager), and Despina Aeraki (art director). The project started in 2013 in Athens but was completed and printed in April 2014 for the exhibition in Athens.

This design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.

The Crisis is a Greek word exhibition catalogue showcases the power of creativity in times of crisis. Through its unique design and innovative approach, it conveys a message of resilience and cultural identity, highlighting the important role that designers play in Greece's creative and cultural development.
