In the heart of southwest China's Guizhou Province, lies HAAIC Hotel, a traditional establishment facing the challenges of competing with international hotels. Recognizing the rich history and culture of the local Buyei minority, 1983ASIA embarked on a journey to rebrand the hotel and create a platform for cultural diffusion.
The inspiration for the design came from the intricate patterns found in the traditional Buyei clothing and textiles. These patterns, deeply rooted in the farming society of the Buyei people, exude simplicity and honesty. By incorporating these historical cultural elements, 1983ASIA aimed to breathe new life into the hotel.
One of the key features of the rebranding was the renaming of the hotel from Haiyu Hotel to HAAIC, which is the language of the Buyei people. This change not only reflects the hotel's commitment to embracing Buyei culture but also serves as a symbol of the hotel's transformation.
1983ASIA meticulously rearranged the Buyei design and color features, selecting key elements to be hand-painted and scanned into the computer for further editing and design using software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. The goal was to create a modern visual design that pays homage to the historical information of the Buyei culture.
The design specifications included specialty paper printing and stamping techniques, adding a touch of uniqueness and sophistication to the branding materials. The result is a visual identity that captures the essence of Buyei culture while appealing to contemporary sensibilities.
In terms of color, the design team opted for a large area of blue, inspired by the traditional Buyei textiles, with minimal color supplements. This deliberate choice breaks away from the traditional visual perception while still respecting the history and heritage of the Buyei people. The hotel's location and frame remain unchanged, allowing for flexibility in adapting the sign and color to reflect the evolving local culture.
HAAIC Hotel serves as a cultural hub, seamlessly integrating guest rooms, dining, and business facilities. By exploring the local cultural characteristics and infusing them into the design, the hotel has successfully transitioned into a high-star chain cultural hotel with a strong brand spirit.
Through a deep examination of the local customs, habits, folk art, and daily life architecture of the Buyei people, 1983ASIA identified the totems, valuable colors, and design systems that represent the art and culture of the Buyei nationality. This meticulous research and attention to detail have resulted in a design that not only revitalizes tradition but also celebrates the rich heritage of the Buyei people.
The exceptional design of HAAIC Hotel has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2016. This award is a testament to the hotel's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements. With its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, HAAIC Hotel contributes to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive experiences for its guests.
