Key Visual Design that Celebrates the Art of Fusing

The GAAHK Inauguration Ceremony is an invitation project that encompasses various adaptations, including a digital backdrop, signboard, brochure, invitation card, souvenir, and mask. The design showcases the collaboration between visual designers and print makers, resulting in a new form of desirable objects that blend colors and foils through digital prints.

What sets this design apart is its emphasis on the unpredictable nature of the creative process. As King explains, "We never know the end result, and that is why we keep trying each time." By embracing experimentation and pushing boundaries, the design embodies the spirit of innovation and artistic exploration.

The key visual design for the ceremony is based on digitally manipulating ink, creating a mesmerizing composition that captivates the viewer. It goes beyond mere visual appeal, inviting the audience to experience the design with their hearts, not just their eyes.

Realizing this design required the expertise of MGI Digital Technology (Konica Minolta), who utilized advanced printing techniques to bring the design to life. The brochure, for example, features special effects such as spot UV coating, thick layers of silver and gold foils, and embossing, allowing people to not only see but also feel its depth and reflection.

The advantage of digital printing is its flexibility, allowing for small print runs and the creation of cover designs in various color variants. The specifications of the design include a brochure size of 210 x 285 mm, a backdrop size of 3000 x 5000 mm, a standard-sized mask, and an invitation card in A6 format. Additionally, a super large digital screen will be incorporated into the ceremony to enhance the visual experience.

Throughout the three-month duration of the project, King and the design team faced numerous challenges. They conducted over a hundred trials to achieve the perfect composition, balancing positive and negative spaces to ensure adaptability across different mediums. The design's success relied on the ability to embrace the unexpected and create something truly original.

The GAAHK Inauguration Ceremony key visual design has garnered recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2022.
