Regnum Carya Hotel Lobby: A Nature-Inspired Oasis

A Unique Blend of Nature and Luxury

The lobby of Regnum Carya Hotel, designed by Arketipo Design, seamlessly blends the beauty of nature with the elegance of luxury. Inspired by the hotel's location on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, this design creates a tranquil oasis that welcomes guests with its natural forms and textures.

The concept behind the lobby design draws inspiration from the hotel's surroundings, with the blue Mediterranean sea and lush green golf club serving as the main influences. The designers incorporated elements of nature, such as the leaf form of the Carya Illinoinensis (walnut), into both the three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional surfaces of the space.

One of the standout features of the lobby is the steel separator located at the entrance, which separates the corridor from the 25-meter-high atrium. This separator showcases intricate leaf patterns on its surface, creating a visual connection to the natural world. The same leaf pattern can be seen on large leaf sculptures and the textured surface behind the reception desk, further enhancing the nature-inspired theme.

When it comes to materials, the design team prioritized sustainability and respect for the environment. They opted for Leed-certified materials, such as wood and natural stone, which were chosen for their natural shapes and forms. This conscious choice not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also aligns with the hotel's commitment to green practices.

The lobby spans an impressive 1800 square meters, with a soaring 25-meter-high atrium that creates a sense of grandeur. The bar area, covering 200 square meters and standing at 4 meters in height, provides a cozy and intimate space for guests to relax and unwind.

One of the design's key strengths lies in its seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. Green areas within the lobby create a smooth transition between the interior and exterior, blurring the boundaries and allowing guests to feel connected to nature even when indoors.

The lighting element in the center of the lobby is another notable feature. Designed in the shape of a water drop, it serves as both a functional and decorative element. As the light cascades from the ceiling, it creates a mesmerizing effect, resembling water drops falling onto the nearby leaf sculptures near the reception desk.

The design of the Regnum Carya Hotel lobby was a result of meticulous research and careful consideration of the hotel's unique challenges. The team analyzed the circulation patterns of the indoor recreational spaces to ensure a seamless flow throughout the lobby. They also tackled the challenge of emphasizing the location of the reception desk, which was situated between two towering 25-meter atrium walls.

The Regnum Carya Hotel lobby design project commenced in June 2012 in Istanbul and was completed in April 2013. Throughout the process, Arketipo Design and their dedicated team worked tirelessly to create a space that not only exudes luxury but also embraces the beauty of nature.

This exceptional design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2015. This accolade is a testament to the design's ingenuity and its contribution to enhancing the quality of life for hotel guests.
