Royal Handle: A Unique Blend of Art Nouveau and European Design

Blending Styles to Create a Harmonious Door Handle

Eng. Mohamed Sherif's Royal Handle takes Art Nouveau to a new level by seamlessly blending this often avoided style with general European design. This innovative door handle showcases the designer's ability to harmonize different design philosophies and create a truly unique and captivating piece.

The inspiration for the Royal Handle came from the Art Nouveau style, known for its excessive and repetitive flowing lines. Eng. Mohamed Sherif aimed to incorporate these elements into the handle grip while also infusing the general European design style into the plate. The result is a stunning harmony that breaks away from conventional and traditional designs.

What sets the Royal Handle apart is its exceptional artistic lines and usability. The handle grip embodies the core elements of Art Nouveau, with its curved lines and natural elements. The floral and foliage shapes of the handle plate draw inspiration from general European design, creating a captivating blend. The handle lines flow in different directions yet remain harmonious, while the grip center is adorned with a precious stone.

Comfort was also a key consideration in the design process. The handle grip is ergonomically designed to perfectly match the palm in a loose grip, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable user experience. The handle is made of brass, carved in wax, and cast using the lost wax casting method, resulting in a high-quality and durable product.

Technical specifications of the Royal Handle include a height of 50 centimeters, a plate thickness of approximately 1.5 centimeters, and a grip length of 21 centimeters. The handle's design is characterized by its rich curves and flowing shapes, with a maximum width of 8 centimeters at the plate center.

The Royal Handle's operating mechanism is traditional, with its installation integrated with the lock case. A spring maintains the handle's upright position, while a washer prevents friction and ensures durability. The handle grip's diameter and design prioritize palm comfort, making it a pleasure to use.

Eng. Mohamed Sherif began the design process for the Royal Handle in January 2008, completing the artwork in just three weeks. The design was realized at Art Heritage, with the wax model taking two months to carve and the remaining production phases taking two weeks to complete. The Royal Handle was showcased at Decofair 2014, the Premium International Furniture and Interior Design Show.

The Royal Handle draws inspiration from the Art Nouveau movement, which emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against academic art. It sought inspiration from natural forms and structures, incorporating curved lines and harmonizing with the natural environment. The Royal Handle's plate design also takes cues from general European design styles, featuring floral shapes and flowing leaves commonly found in classic designs from the 14th to the 19th century.

Overcoming the challenge of blending different design styles was a significant obstacle in the creation of the Royal Handle. Eng. Mohamed Sherif successfully merged the repetitive and flowing lines of Art Nouveau with the general European design elements, resulting in a harmonious and visually striking piece. Additionally, the production process required a high level of precision to achieve the fine undercut carving and accuracy needed for such a detailed design.

The Royal Handle is a testament to Eng. Mohamed Sherif's artistic vision and ability to create a truly unique and captivating design. By blending Art Nouveau and European design, he has crafted a door handle that stands out from the crowd and adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Accessories, Hardware, and Materials Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Royal Handle's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics make it a deserving recipient of this esteemed accolade.
