Creachair: A Playful and Innovative Chair for Children

Encouraging Creativity, Imagination, and Tactile Skills

Children's cognitive and physical development greatly benefit from creative expression and tactile stimulation. With this in mind, Oblikus Design Studio created Creachair as a product that encourages children to express their emotions, practice visual communication, and participate in the design process. The chair serves as an open invitation for playful collaboration and idea exchange among kids.

What sets Creachair apart is its versatility and interactive nature. Each chair is assembled using various shapes, colors, and materials, including a seat, legs, eyes, teeth, and leg covers. Children can create endless combinations and characters, allowing them to explore their creativity and imagination. The chair provides a wide range of tactile sensations through the use of velcro, zippers, buttons, clip buttons, and laces.

In terms of production, Creachair is currently a design concept with functional prototypes. However, the vision is to use lightweight, reliable, and non-toxic materials in serial production. The base of the chair, including the seat and legs, will be made of molded plastic, while the teeth will be made of silicone rubber. The eyes will be crafted from felt and velcro, and the leg covers will be made from a variety of textile materials and stuffing, along with different types of fasteners.

With dimensions of 300mm in width, depth, and height, Creachair is designed to be easily detachable for packaging convenience. Safety is a top priority, and the designers are working on ensuring a reliable connection between the seat and legs in the next phase of the project.

Children can interact with Creachair in various ways. They can play alone, creating their own characters, or collaborate with their parents to bring their imaginative ideas to life. The wide variety of material options allows for fuzzy, furry, scary, silly, or any combination of characters to be created.

The Creachair project began in Belgrade in November 2013. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research by observing children's reactions and interactions with prototypes. This research helped shape the design of each component, ensuring that there is no wrong way to apply the eyes, teeth, and leg covers. The ease of attachment and interchangeability of these parts allows the creative process to flow smoothly, leaving children excited and content as they create new characters.

Creachair's innovative design and commitment to promoting creativity and tactile skills have been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award. In 2016, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids, and Children's Products Design category. This award acknowledges the chair's well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities that meet professional and industrial requirements. Creachair is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, ultimately contributing to a better world.
