Interior Design that Redefines the Meaning of Light

The Cascade of Lights, designed by Steph Lee, is an interior design project that beautifully integrates light and greenery to create a unique living space. Located in the Tien Mu district of Taipei, this design takes inspiration from the concept of a green house, aiming to bring the outdoors inside and create a delightful living landscape.

The interior space spans approximately 330 square meters and features an elongated structure with long corridors and a large terrace. The layout of the space had to be carefully considered to maximize natural light and create a harmonious flow. By incorporating the creative concept of a sunshine container, which includes a large ground glass and a setback design of the floor, the design successfully brings an abundance of light and green views into the indoor environment.

The Cascade of Lights stands out from other interior designs due to its emphasis on light and its integration of green energy concepts. The design seamlessly connects the relationship between people and nature, transforming the space from being stiff and rigid to warm and inviting. The use of extending lines within the space creates a sense of continuity and harmony, while the hidden functions in the corridor walls maintain a simple and pure background.

The project presented several challenges, including integrating the gallery, terrace, and numerous frame lines within the building design. However, these challenges were overcome to create a villa-like atmosphere in the heart of the city. The result is a space that overflows with sunshine, offering a leisurely atmosphere where one can enjoy the sunlight, urban landscape, and peaceful moments.

The Cascade of Lights was completed in May 2015 in Taipei. Throughout the design process, the designer had full authority over the colors, proportions, and material details, resulting in a cohesive and high-quality project. The attention to detail and the seamless integration of light and greenery make this design a truly exceptional example of interior design.

This outstanding design was recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. The Cascade of Lights exemplifies these qualities and showcases the best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
