Revamping Stumbro Starka: A Unique Lithuanian Beverage

Redesigning the Bottle and Labels to Preserve Tradition

Stumbro Starka holds a special place in Lithuanian culture, with a tradition dating back to the old days when men would make this aged vodka to celebrate the birth of their first son. The vodka is triple distilled from rye and infused with the leaves of apples and pears, symbolizing richness and a long, full life. The spirit is then patiently aged in oak barrels until the son's wedding day.

By changing the image of Stumbro Starka, Studija Creata aimed to create a cohesive design that captures the essence of this unique beverage. The new dark glass bottle, with its distinctive shape and raised calligraphy, immediately catches the eye. The label, rich in detail, tells the legend of the drink, further immersing the consumer in its history. The bottle stopper, adorned with an oak leaf wreath, adds a touch of elegance and reinforces the connection to nature.

To maintain a sense of continuity with the previous design, the color scheme of black, white, and red was retained. However, the new design elevates the overall appearance, giving Stumbro Starka a reserved yet impressive look that sets it apart from its predecessor.

The realization of the design involved the use of glass bottles and flexo printing techniques. The result is a 500 ml bottle with dimensions of 80 (w) x 51 (d) x 235 (h) mm, perfectly suited to showcase the unique character of Stumbro Starka.

Studija Creata, led by designer Asta Kauspedaite, collaborated with illustrator Rimas Valeikis and Jurate Paulauskiene, the Head of Product Development Department at Stumbras, to bring this redesign to life. Their collective efforts have breathed new life into Stumbro Starka, transforming it into a beverage that Lithuanians can be proud to share with guests or give as a gift.

With the revamp of Stumbro Starka, Studija Creata aimed to reintroduce this interesting and rich beverage to a wider audience. By preserving its unique Lithuanian characteristics and presenting it in a modern and sophisticated package, Stumbro Starka now stands as a symbol of tradition and quality.

This redesign of Stumbro Starka was recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The revamped Stumbro Starka embodies these qualities, evoking a sense of wonder and admiration in those who encounter it.
