Panda: An Animated Music Video

An Imaginary World of Music

Nischay Parekh, along with Jivraj Singh, explores sonical soundscapes often not familiar with singer-songwriters, but is hook-friendly at its core, like any good song. With the song Panda, the filmmakers have hoped to recreate the emotions and visuals in one's mind upon listening to the song. Shot in a single frame, in a single cut, the video uses live animation - created from static illustrations, often abstract and often literal to the lyrical and songwriting process of the song.

The design team behind Panda, consisting of Director + DOP Naman Saraiya, Creative Director + Illustrations Ayesha Kapadia, and Animation + Colorist Rishabh Malhotra, worked tirelessly to bring this imaginative world to life. The project spanned over a year, with work spread out between Kolkata and Mumbai, India.

One of the challenges faced by the team was expressing an undefinable feeling through visuals and drawings over a video. Countless sketches and color templates were created to find the right balance and techniques to convey the essence of the music. The result is a visually stunning and emotionally captivating music video.

The video was shot using a Canon EoS 7D and post-production was done using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe AfterEffects. The final product is a 2 minute and 53-second masterpiece that takes viewers on a journey through an imaginary world of music.

Panda has received recognition for its creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Movie, Video, and Animation Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements.
