Modern cities are filled with high-rise buildings, and while communication technology is highly developed, people often find themselves isolated, especially in intensive and tedious work environments. Evan Wu and the Feeling Design team addressed this issue in their design for the BWM office. They sought to break down hierarchical relationships among employees and enhance their freedom, drawing inspiration from the interaction between stones and water in streams.
The design's unique properties lie in its fluid sense of space, created through the use of highly consistent lines. Fluent lines and a simple space layout are combined to create a sense of beauty that breaks away from the conventional layout of office spaces. The white background, wood elements, and hidden lights create a cozy atmosphere. Each part of the space has a unique size and radian, connecting and penetrating each other through special forms. The fluid and curved office table baffles in the central open office strengthen communication among colleagues.
The realization of this design involved environmentally friendly artificial stone used to produce modular prefabricated components for the curved feature wall. Seamless jointing technology was used for its installation. The floor material is Swedish BOLON environmentally friendly woven rubber slab, and other parts mainly include finish panel and latex paint. The space spans 320 square meters, and the project was completed in Guangzhou, China, from November 2013 to May 2014.
The main challenge in this design was the overall control of the fluid sense of the whole space, which required every line to interact with each other. Implementing the design presented the challenge of solving the technology issues of seamless jointing of the curved prefabricated components. Despite these challenges, the design was successful and was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016.
People are becoming more indifferent today, and Feeling Design attempted to break this situation when they received the design task for the BWM office. Instead of emphasizing hierarchical relationships among colleagues in other companies, BWM concerns more about inner cooperation. Feeling Design hit it off with BWM right away! Feeling Design made a decision to change the space compartment structure for creating a more friendly and harmonious office space.
This innovative design approach by Evan Wu and the Feeling Design team is a testament to the transformative power of design in shaping our work environments and influencing our interactions. The Interaction - BWM Office design serves as an inspiration for future office space designs that aim to promote communication and freedom among employees.
