Oculus: A Revolution in Mega Yacht Design

Schopfer Yachts' Oculus: A Fusion of Elegance, Speed, and Innovation

In the world of luxury yachts, Schopfer Yachts' Oculus stands out as a masterpiece of design and engineering. Inspired by the bone structure of large oceanic creatures, this award-winning mega yacht redefines the boundaries of marine architecture.

The exterior of the Oculus is a testament to the beauty of nature, mimicking the jaw and eye socket structure of large oceanic fish and mammals. Its dramatic reverse bow configuration and "low rider profile" not only add to its aesthetic appeal but also offer new side recreational areas, alternate dockage access, and light cruising openness.

But the Oculus is not just about looks. It is designed for long-distance cruising at speeds of over 25 knots. The interior is equally impressive, boasting a 12-foot high ceiling in the main salon, a cylindrical double-height dining room, a central stair and elevator tube, and an anatomical ceiling. The second level is dedicated to the Owner's suite, while the third level houses the forward pilothouse, captain's quarters, and generous open decks.

The Oculus is constructed using a carbon fiber superstructure/hull and tempered multi-layered glass inserts. It measures 250 feet in length, with a beam of 42 feet and a draft of 13 feet. It can carry up to 58,000 gallons of fuel and 20,000 gallons of water, and can accommodate up to 14 guests.

The design process for the Oculus took two years, with another estimated 2.5 to 3 years for construction. The design team, led by E. Kevin Schopfer, faced the challenge of integrating a complex program of traditional yacht elements with a new, organic styling narrative. The result is a yacht that is as functional as it is beautiful.

The Oculus is not just a design marvel; it is also a testament to innovation and technology. It was awarded the Golden A' Yacht and Marine Vessels Design Award in 2016, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.

In the world of mega yachts, the Oculus stands as a beacon of innovation and design excellence, a testament to the vision and expertise of Schopfer Yachts. It is a shining example of how design and technology can come together to create something truly extraordinary.
