The Wave Catamaran project was born out of a desire to challenge the current typology of catamaran designs. Often characterized by simple exteriors and luxurious interiors, these vessels lacked a harmonious and fluid design. Designer Roberta Visintin sought to create a catamaran that would not only be sporting but also exude elegance, both inside and out.
Visintin drew inspiration from the ever-moving sea, using the wave as a symbol of its constant motion. This concept is beautifully reflected in the hull design, with lines that seem to break and bow, mimicking the graceful movement of waves. The result is a visually striking exterior that sets the Wave Catamaran apart from its counterparts.
One of the standout features of the Wave Catamaran is the seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces. Large glass windows provide a nearly 360-degree view, creating a sense of continuity with the outside world. Furthermore, the spacious glass doors open up to connect the indoor and outdoor areas, blurring the boundaries and allowing life on board to seamlessly flow between the two.
When it comes to the materials used in the Wave Catamaran, Visintin opted for a combination of modern and traditional elements. The exterior hulls and superstructure are crafted from bronze-colored fiberglass, adding a touch of uniqueness to the boat's overall aesthetic. Inside, the walls are coated with civil white plaster, while select elements such as the shipowner's cabin ceiling and bed headboard are adorned with luxurious leather. The flooring is a mix of teak for the external spaces and wengé for the interiors, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Technical specifications of the Wave Catamaran include an overall length of 27 meters, an overall beam of 9.80 meters, and a draft of 1.50 meters. These dimensions provide ample space for comfortable cruising and luxurious living on board.
The Wave Catamaran project was initially conceived in October 2011 in Monfalcone, Italy, with the aim of participating in the Myda 2012 Competition. Building on the experience gained from the competition, the design was further refined, with a focus on perfecting the interior spaces and enhancing the exterior design.
The design process for the Wave Catamaran was not without its challenges. Starting without a structural design posed a significant hurdle, but Visintin and her team overcame this obstacle by meticulously designing a feasible hull that captures the sinuous lines of a wave.
The Wave Catamaran has garnered recognition and acclaim for its outstanding design. In 2012, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Yacht and Marine Vessels Design category. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the exceptional creativity, technical expertise, and innovation showcased by the Wave Catamaran.
The Wave Catamaran is a testament to the power of design in transforming the cruising experience. With its sporting yet elegant design, seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, and attention to detail, it offers a truly exceptional yachting experience.
