Special Edition Porto Barros 100YO: A Century of Art and Passion in a Bottle

Omdesign's Award-Winning Packaging Celebrates 100 Years of Porto Barros

The inspiration behind the packaging design was the talent and art reflected in each bottle of Porto Barros, a brand with a rich history dating back to 1913. The packaging, enveloped in premium card and black fine paper, is attached to two halves of solid wood around the bottle. The feel and finish of the packaging are reminiscent of the challenging schist soil in the Douro region, where vineyards battle adverse weather conditions to produce unique wines.

Omdesign employed the finest quality materials and finishes in the creation and production of this special edition packaging. The solid oak used mirrors the barrels where the ten batches of this wine slowly matured in the magnificent cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. The specifications of the design are meticulously detailed, with dimensions of 176 mm in width, 331 mm in depth, and 108 mm in height.

The interaction with the packaging is designed to surprise and transport the user back to 1913, the year when the authentic and genuine Porto Barros brand was founded. The project, which began in October 2012 in Porto, Portugal, and concluded in May 2013, involved close cooperation with the client to meet their goals and expectations.

The challenge for Omdesign was to create a premium packaging that could eternalise the first 100 years of this Port wine brand, with only 1913 exclusive bottles. The result is a numbered edition that honours the 100th anniversary of the prestigious Portuguese Port wine brand. Each bottle holds 100 years of passion, talent, and art, taking you back to the year the authentic and genuine Porto Barros was founded.

The Special Edition Porto Barros 100YO packaging design by Omdesign was awarded the Golden A' Luxury Design Award in 2016. This prestigious accolade is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
