Rustoholic Cinema

Industrial Charm Meets Cinematic Experience

The Palace Cinemas in Chengdu, designed by OFT Interiors Ltd., bring the rawness of industrial style to the world of cinema. With its unique combination of bronze, concrete, and corrugated metal finishes, this design creates a captivating atmosphere that sets it apart from traditional cinema spaces.

Inspired by the post-war era's industrial design, the Rustoholic Cinema embraces the roughness and personality of the industrial style. The ticketing lobby, the first space that greets visitors, showcases the fusion of bronze and concrete, materials that evoke an industrial aesthetic. Every element in the lobby, from the walls to the counter, is carefully crafted to create a cohesive industrial theme.

As visitors move through the cinema, they are surrounded by silver and bronze corrugated metal finishes, creating a factory-like atmosphere. The gold-colored corrugated sheet feature wall adds a touch of glamour while staying true to the industrial theme. The ceiling, adorned with bronze-colored corrugated metal sheets and metal I-channels, serves as a guide, leading people into the exhibition space with its captivating story.

One of the unique aspects of the Rustoholic Cinema is the attention to detail in every area. From the elevators to the ticket box and the theaters, the industrial charm is maintained through various metal wall finishes. The corridor outside the theaters extends the rawness of the industrial style, creating an immersive experience for moviegoers.

The design team carefully arranged the white ceramic tile flooring in a seemingly chaotic pattern, which interacts with the surrounding design features in a systematic way. The ceiling, adorned with white metal bars and LED lighting, creates a fascinating contrast with the dark and grey tones of the corridor. The bronze-colored corrugated metal sheets, combined with I-channels, transform the walls into a series of containers, reminiscent of a delivery route.

The Rustoholic Cinema project began in November 2013 in Chengdu and was completed in July 2015. It opened its doors to the public in August 2015, offering a unique cinematic experience in an industrial-inspired setting.

OFT Interiors Ltd., the design team behind Rustoholic Cinema, conducted extensive research on industrial style design from the post-war era. By incorporating materials like bronze, concrete, and corrugated metal, they successfully captured the essence of industrial charm while adding a touch of elegance with gold accents and thoughtful design details.

The Rustoholic Cinema design presented several challenges, including balancing the rustic theme with maintenance and durability considerations, as well as managing construction costs. However, the design team's creativity and technical expertise allowed them to overcome these challenges and create a truly unique and captivating cinema space.

The Rustoholic Cinema design by OFT Interiors Ltd. has been recognized for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2016. This prestigious award honors designs that showcase strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
