Glowing House: A Modern Residential Design by Tzu-Yi Yang

Creating a Seamless Flow of Light and Space

This unique residential design, named Glowing House, stands out for its combination of commercial and living spaces. The clients envisioned a home where they could entertain friends and family, making the separation of public and private areas a key consideration. To achieve this, the direction of the door was altered, creating a hidden entrance to the living area and providing the clients with more privacy.

One of the standout features of Glowing House is the use of transparent sliding doors in the open kitchen. These doors effectively block cooking fumes without compromising the sense of permeability, allowing the clients to interact with the living room while preparing meals.

The overall design of Glowing House embraces a simple modern style, with a color palette of black, white, and gray, complemented by warm-toned hardwood veneer. The interior space features fair-faced concrete flooring, defining the shoe cabinet area and adding a touch of modernity to the space. The alternating use of stainless steel and black tones creates a sense of rhythm throughout the design.

Transforming the space from an office into a residential area posed various construction challenges. The designer reconfigured utility lines into hanging pipelines and added a shaft for the bathroom, giving it a fresh and contemporary look. Additionally, a working balcony was incorporated to further define the separation between public and private spaces.

Glowing House also caters to the needs of the clients' pets, with a dedicated pet-friendly living space. This thoughtful inclusion ensures that the entire family, including their furry friends, can enjoy the comfort and functionality of the design.

The project was completed in November 2019 and has garnered recognition for its innovative approach. Glowing House was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.
