C Major: A Luxurious and Tranquil Residential Design

A harmonious blend of classical inspiration and modern elegance

When an unaccompanied cello piece in C major by Bach is played, the calm and quiet sound of the instrument resonates with the first encounter between the client's sensibility and this space. The design team, led by Hsu Hsin Cheng, aims to gradually outline a grand atmosphere of luxury and tranquility with an introverted and quiet tone. The space, known as C Major, is embedded with champagne gold and Morandi grey tones, reflecting the elegance and stability of light and shadow. With the atmosphere in the space, the client can find a sense of relief and freedom in mind.

C Major stands out from other residential designs with its unique approach to materials and spatial arrangement. The design team employed the technique of overlapping different materials between each turn of the field, injecting ingenuity into the space between the virtual and the real. Stainless steel was used to cover the abrupt beams, creating a seamless and harmonious visual experience. Sliding doors were installed between the study and living room, enhancing functionality and flexibility.

The micro-circular ceilings in the public area draw inspiration from the Baroque vault, reflecting the classic architectural style of the Bach era. These intricate designs add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space. Hidden sliding doors between the secondary bedrooms provide privacy and allow for uninterrupted use of the space.

In terms of realization technology, stainless steel was used to minimize joints and beams, creating a sleek and seamless aesthetic. Linear lighting was added to eliminate the bulkiness of the original beams and columns, creating a more open and spacious feel. The ceiling of the dining room and study features tawny glass, which brings in natural light and complements the sliding door. The design team carefully considered both visual harmony and functional optimization.

C Major spans 154 square meters and includes a balcony, living room, dining room, and three plus one rooms. The study room can also double as a guest room, while a maid's room and storage room provide additional functionality. The calm grey tones, leather furniture, transparent glass, and mirror elements create a luxurious and elegant atmosphere throughout the space. The design team paid meticulous attention to detail, refining the edges and materials to achieve a polished and refined look.

Designed by Hsu-Hsin Cheng, C Major not only focuses on visual consistency but also achieves the perfect utilization of space. The addition of a study and guest room provides flexibility for storage and other uses, while also offering a place for the maid to rest. The design seamlessly integrates practicality and aesthetic appeal.

The project was carried out in Taiwan, starting in September 2021 and finishing in January 2022. Extensive research was conducted to ensure a harmonious interplay of materials, colors, and textures. The design team carefully selected beige tones, leather sofas, wooden elements, and linear light strips to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Wood grain materials were used for the flooring and cabinets, bringing a sense of harmony and consistency to the entire space.

One of the main challenges faced in this project was the abruptness of the large crossbeam across the main vision. To overcome this, the design team utilized different materials such as tawny glass and mirrors to create a harmonious and consistent feeling. The Bach-era style echoes the core of the design, blending perfectly with daily life and creating a more comfortable experience for the residents.

C Major is a testament to the meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful design choices made by Hsu Hsin Cheng. Stainless steel was used to weaken the beams and create a cohesive visual flow throughout the space. The study cabinets were adorned with natural-toned plaster, injecting a sense of simplicity into the luxurious and elegant environment. Linear lighting was strategically placed to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere, enhancing the overall tranquility and comfort of the space.
