Dr Pet: Transforming an Abandoned House into a Vibrant Pet Club

Revitalizing an Old Residence into a Modern Commercial Space

The two-story brick building was originally the residence of wealthy people in Taiwan in the early days. However, after being abandoned for a long time, it has now been transformed into a pet club called "Dr. Pet". The club offers custom pet food containing probiotic ingredients and provides a beautiful space for customers to interact with each other and their pets.

As modern society places increasing importance on pets, child-friendly commercial spaces have emerged. With the client's brand concept and product characteristics in mind, the Dr. Pet project has created a comfortable pet club that embraces the popular photo-check-in culture, ingenious product displays, lively color schemes, and spacious indoor and outdoor areas. The design also aims to foster a sense of community by incorporating open space planning, while preserving the original historical value of the building and utilizing its original features and materials.

The design of Dr. Pet incorporates a variety of materials, including brick grilles, imitation stone tiles, terrazzo, natural wood veneer, customized furniture, iron, clear glass, sleepers, artificial turf, and stone paint. These materials come together to create a unique and visually appealing environment for both pets and their owners.

The club spans approximately 132.23 square meters and features various areas such as a grass hall, reception area, rest area, live broadcast area, display area, and office. Each space is carefully designed to cater to the needs of both pets and their human companions.

One of the key challenges faced during the design process was the transformation of an old residential building into a modern commercial space. The design team had to repair the building's old equipment and readjust the layout to meet the requirements of a commercial establishment. Additionally, the team had to overcome the difficulties posed by the building's historical significance and the overgrown environment. Through collaboration with experts from various fields and continuous problem-solving, the design team successfully transformed the space into a vibrant pet club.

The Dr. Pet project was completed in September 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to combine the site's historical culture with modern amenities, creating a bright and comfortable resting space. The overall layout of the club resembles a pet amusement park, featuring open and spacious areas, lively color selections, and a natural and comfortable environment. The reception design, inspired by traditional Chinese medicine shops, reflects the brand's commitment to tailor-made food based on each pet's physique.

The Dr. Pet project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Dr. Pet exemplifies industry best practices and technical excellence, contributing to a better world for pets and their owners.
