Cwic: The All-Seasons Tree

A Unique and Educational Toy

Cwic, designed by Pablo Saracho & Mayte Ruiz de Velasco, is a one-of-a-kind toy that combines design, interaction, nature, and fun. Inspired by the changing colors of trees throughout the seasons, this toy allows children to explore the cycle of life while using their imagination.

Cwic is a beautifully crafted tree made of hand-painted beech wood. The trunk of the tree serves as a base, with embossed magnets strategically placed to hold the colorful round pieces that represent the foliage. With 50 round pieces in varying sizes and colors, children can stack and arrange them to recreate the four seasons of the year.

Spring is represented by vibrant green leaves and blossoming flowers, while summer features a lush canopy of leaves. As autumn arrives, the leaves turn orange, and in winter, the tree is covered in a blanket of white snow. By rearranging the pieces, children can explore the changes that occur in nature throughout the year.

What sets Cwic apart is not only its design but also its educational value. By playing with this toy, children can learn about the life cycle of trees and the different seasons. It encourages creativity, imagination, and an understanding of nature's rhythms.

The packaging of Cwic is as thoughtful as the toy itself. The box is designed to resemble a wooden flowerpot, made of solid beech wood. Held together by magnets, it adds an element of surprise and delight when opened. The attention to detail in both the toy and its packaging reflects the designers' commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Cwic was first conceptualized in February 2015 in Segovia, Spain, and the project was completed in September of the same year. It was later exhibited at La Maison and Objet in Paris. The designers' dedication to research and innovation is evident in their continuous exploration of wooden toys and their commitment to bridging the gap between toys and design.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Toys, Games, and Hobby Products category in 2016. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

Cwic is not just a toy; it is an educational tool that sparks creativity, teaches children about nature, and fosters an appreciation for design. With its unique concept and meticulous craftsmanship, Cwic is a testament to the power of combining art, innovation, and technology in creating a better world.
