Designed by renowned designer Yasumichi Morita, Tokimeite draws inspiration from the Japanese festival, “Matsuri.” The festival is a celebration of gratitude for a bountiful harvest and showcases the Japanese zest for living in harmony with the changing seasons.
The restaurant is spread across three floors, each featuring a different design motif that creates a unique ambience. The first floor is divided into two separate spaces: “mizu” dining, themed around water, and “moku” dining, inspired by wood. The gold mirror at the back of the intricate timber latticework adds visual depth to the cozy “moku” dining area.
One of the standout features of Tokimeite is the series of decorative lights that lead guests from the entrance to the show kitchen. These lights, adorned with gold decorations reminiscent of Japanese shrines and temples, create a festive atmosphere reminiscent of the lively “Matsuri” festival.
The design of Tokimeite presented several challenges due to the narrow building and the presence of a large structure in the middle. The original space was divided into smaller rooms, and the staircase connecting the ground floor and the first floor further limited the space planning. However, the design team successfully regenerated the disconnected spaces, creating an operational and visually stunning restaurant across three elongated floors.
Tokimeite has received recognition for its exceptional design. In 2016, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.
Experience the flavors of Japan in the heart of London at Tokimeite. Whether you're dining in the flame-themed En area, the water-themed Mizu area, or the wood-themed Moku area, you're sure to have a memorable culinary experience.
