The design of Urban Enframement is a testament to the designers' vision of returning living spaces to a primitive state. The designers imagine ancient people living in cave dwellings, using the same materials for all space and life appliances. The space, devoid of straight lines or right angles, creates a stretching visual experience due to the changes of time. Through digital operation, plywood is wholly designed in the entire space, creating a unique visual experience.
The realization of this design involved the use of CNC sheet material, black iron, black paint, and wisdom optical-grade PET film. Covering an area of 106 square meters, the design is a perfect blend of form and function. The two stores are designed with the concept of two boutique display windows, creating a visual effect of a house placed in a shop window of a boutique.
The design was brought to life in Taipei city, Taiwan, starting in August 2018. The designers employed a unique wisdom optical-grade PET film stuck to the glass, which becomes atomized at night, transforming the display window into a large screen. This innovative feature allows for the display of actual performances, sales information, and even NBA playoffs, enhancing the effectiveness and entertainment value of the display window.
Walking through this space, one experiences the continuity of the space with the changes of visual angles. There is no repetition of visual angles in this space, encouraging exploration and wandering. This design challenge was overcome through digital operation, creating a unique visual experience with plywood designed wholly in the entire space.
Urban Enframement has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.
