Primitive: A Revolution in Residential Space Design

A Breakthrough Concept by CHIUNG-HO, SU

The house that breaks tradition and embraces flexibility

The residence known as Primitive was originally an office space for a wife who worked in the advertising industry. After retirement, the couple decided to transform it into a unique dwelling that defies traditional concepts of residential design. CHIUNG-HO, SU, the mastermind behind this project, aimed to create a more liberal living space that could easily adapt to changing needs.

What sets Primitive apart is its expression of living space through the use of concrete filling to showcase the natural context. The combination of wood, cement, glass bricks, and metal pieces adds depth and personality to the space. The large glass windows allow ample sunlight to flood the interior, infusing the entire space with soul and vitality.

The design team's choice of green materials further enhances the connection to nature. By breaking the boundaries between the interior and exterior, they have created a seamless flow throughout the space. The result is a multi-layered environment that connects private and public spaces, providing a sense of harmony and tranquility.

Primitive spans two floors, with the ground floor serving as the private space and the first floor as the working space. Two separate staircases provide independent access to each area, ensuring the spatial movement caters to different purposes. The design challenges the conventional notion of residential space, offering a revolutionary atmosphere that nurtures the mind and body.

The project, which began in November 2014 in Taipei, Taiwan, was completed in April 2015. The owner's unique taste for art influenced the design, resulting in a pure and organic atmosphere. The clean concrete surfaces and vibrant paintings create a delightful contrast, capturing the essence of the most primitive human desire for space.

Primitive's exceptional design and innovation have earned it the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2016. This recognition is a testament to the project's outstanding expertise, remarkable creativity, and ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder.

Primitive is more than just a residence; it is a testament to the power of design to transform spaces and create environments that inspire and rejuvenate. CHIUNG-HO, SU's vision has redefined residential living, offering a new level of freedom, ease, and soul.
