Blown Glass Design Inspired by Mitosis Division

Mitosis is not your ordinary ceiling lamp. It stands out with its metamorphosis form, inspired by the process of mitosis division. The designers aimed to create a sense of action and motion, especially when the lamps are placed over a dinner table, where people gather to eat and receive energy for their body cells' recreation.

What sets Mitosis apart is its blown glass construction. Each piece is made from recycled glass, ensuring sustainability and environmental consciousness. The use of geometric shapes adds to the lamp's unique design, creating a visually striking display.

One of the key features of Mitosis is its versatility. While each lamp is designed to be part of a set, they can also be used separately based on the user's needs. This flexibility allows for customization and adaptability in various spaces.

The technical specifications of Mitosis are as follows: Width 120 mm x Depth 120 mm x Height 320 mm. The lamps are powered by thin LED lights, which are carefully integrated into each sphere. The designers faced the challenge of finding the most suitable type of LED light due to the 15 mm hole on each sphere. They opted for a thin cylindrical LED light, ensuring minimal visual impact on the overall shape of the lamps.

The Mitosis project began in April 2014 on Kish Island and was completed in February 2016 in Tehran. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to create a ceiling lamp that tells a story. The designers questioned the conventional notion of uniformity in indoor ceiling lamp sets and sought to add a sense of fun and uniqueness to the design.

Mitosis has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2016 in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and technical characteristics.
