GUILIN: A Lamp That Cleanses the Environment

COC's Innovative Design Inspired by the Mountains of Guilin, China

Introducing GUILIN, a lamp designed by COC that does more than just illuminate your space. Inspired by the cascading mountains of Guilin, China, this lamp is not only aesthetically pleasing but also serves a greater purpose - it cleanses the environment. This innovative design, which won the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2018, is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of nature.

The GUILIN lamp is composed of a base with three equal length slots that hold photocatalytic coated acrylic "mountains". These mountains can be arranged in any way the user wishes, reflecting the ever-changing nature of our environment. The mountains are not just decorative, they also serve a functional purpose. The special photocatalic treatment works with any light and wind during the day, and when night falls, the illumination of the lamp continues the cleansing process.

The design of the GUILIN lamp is unique in its flexibility and functionality. The mountains are easily removable and can be arranged based on the user's preference. This allows for a level of customization that is rare in most lamp designs. The base of the lamp is made of sand blasted steel with an embedded LED light trough that illuminates the mountains while also activating the air cleansing function of the lamp.

The lamp is not just a beautiful piece of design, it is also a technological marvel. The movable mountains are laser cut acrylic with light grooves and photocatalytically treated. The lamp also features a touch sensitive on/off switch and an internal charging battery. Once the light base is on, the acrylic mountains absorb the light source from below and illuminate. This also triggers the chemical reaction of the photocatalysis and starts cleaning the air around.

The GUILIN lamp is a result of years of research and development. The design concept originally started in 2011 and went through many changes. The implementation of photocatalytic technology started in 2016 and the first prototype was completed in February 2018. The market release time is expected to be at the end of 2018.

The GUILIN lamp is not just a lamp, it is a statement about the importance of nature and the role that design can play in preserving it. It is a reminder of the interconnectedness of humans and nature, and the responsibility we have to protect our environment. With its unique design and environmental cleansing function, the GUILIN lamp is truly a beacon of innovation and sustainability.
