FAID: A Unique Jewelry Collection Inspired by Endangered Animals

AgSquare's Award-Winning Design Marries Technology and Conservation

AgSquare, a renowned design team, has created a unique jewelry collection named FAID, which draws inspiration from endangered animals. The collection, which has won the prestigious Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2016, is a testament to the potential of technology in aiding environmental conservation.

The FAID collection stands out due to its unique inspiration and design. The pieces are modelled after endangered animals, including the Sumatran Tiger, Javan Rhino, Western Lowland Gorilla, Saola the Asian Unicorn, and Giant Panda. These animals have been chosen to highlight the urgent issue of illegal hunting and habitat loss. The design of the jewelry pieces is trigonometric, symbolizing the digital format that might soon be the only memory of these species if their extinction continues.

AgSquare has utilized 3D printing technology to bring these designs to life. The pieces are first 3D designed and then 3D printed. Following this, they undergo a sterling silver lost casting wax system and are hand-finished. The final products are then plated with white or black rhodium. This advanced process ensures precision and quality that would be impossible to achieve by hand, especially considering the intricate details and small size of the jewelry pieces.

The FAID collection includes both pendants and rings. The design combines a modern trigonometric transformation of organic forms, resulting in a durable yet lightweight product. The pieces are designed to be comfortable and durable, with dimensions and thickness carefully studied and adjusted for optimal wearability. The collection aims to encourage individuals to be more protective of nature and to consider the consequences of their actions or inactions on the environment.

The creation of the FAID collection was not without its challenges. The design team had to convert the organic forms of the animals into three-dimensional trigonometric designs without distorting their natural shapes. This required numerous sketches and improvements in the three-dimensional design. The project took place from July to October 2015 in Athens, Greece.

The FAID collection is more than just a jewelry line; it is a statement about the importance of environmental conservation and the potential of technology to contribute to this cause. The collection's animals serve as a reminder of the species that are in danger of extinction due to illegal hunting or habitat loss. The use of 3D printing technology suggests a way in which technology can be used to protect and restore the environment. The FAID collection is a testament to AgSquare's commitment to innovative design and environmental conservation.
