Little Star: Contemporary Glass Mosaics Light Object

Little Star is a mesmerizing contemporary glass mosaics light object created by renowned designer Zuzana Mantel. Inspired by the ethereal beauty of the rays of light in the night sky, this design is a true testament to the fusion of art, technology, and innovation.

Mantel's inspiration for Little Star came from the transformation of space and its connection to our minds and consciousness. Drawing from the realms of quantum physics, spirituality, astronomy, and astrology, she beautifully captures the essence of these concepts in her creation.

The design features hand-cut glass mosaics made from traditional Czech glass. The glass mosaics particles are created from semi-product glass sticks used in the production of decorative and technical glass. These particles are meticulously arranged on a transparent glass plate, which is then fixed to an iron frame. Behind the mosaics surface, a LED light panel is tactfully placed, illuminating the design and bringing it to life.

One of the unique aspects of Little Star is its use of yellow uranium glass sticks, which emit a captivating glow under UV light. This adds an extra dimension to the design, creating a mesmerizing play of light and color.

The realization of this design involves a careful process. The glass mosaics parts are glued to the transparent glass plate using transparent MS polymer glue. Some parts of the mosaics surface are covered with pointing to create a textured effect. The mosaics and LED panel are then securely fixed to the iron frame using screws.

Little Star has dimensions of 305mm in width, 160mm in depth, and 305mm in height, with a weight of 5.5 kg. The LED light panel measures 300mm in width, 6mm in depth, and 300mm in height, with a power consumption of 12W.

This exceptional design by Zuzana Mantel was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation category in 2016. This prestigious accolade recognizes the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of designs that contribute to the improvement of quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
