Ducky: A Cute and Colorful Sanitaryware Set for Children

Creating a Joyful Bathroom Experience for Kids

The Ducky project, designed by Fatih Sen & Mehmet Oguz, is a unique and adorable sanitaryware set specifically created for children. Inspired by the beloved yellow rubber duck, this set aims to make bath time a fun and enjoyable experience for kids, while also addressing their specific needs.

Children often find it challenging to get used to the bathroom, which can be an intimidating space for them. The Ducky bathroom set, with its cute and playful design, helps alleviate their fears and makes the bathroom a more welcoming place. The set consists of a toilet, washbasin, and mirror, all designed to complement a children's bathroom perfectly.

One of the standout features of the Ducky set is its soft and organic forms. There are no sharp corners that could potentially harm children, ensuring their safety while using the bathroom. The designers have paid attention to every detail, creating a set that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The washbasin and toilet are made from ceramic material, while the feet of the washbasin are made from acrylic. To prevent any accidents, the mirrors are made from acrylic instead of glass. This choice not only ensures durability but also adds a touch of playfulness to the design.

Measuring 520 x 400 x 630 mm, the washbasin provides ample space for children to wash their hands and face comfortably. The toilet, with dimensions of 300 x 550 x 750 mm, features a space on the front of the lid, making it easier for children to open it. The mirrors come in two sizes: 545 x 505 x 7 mm for the duck-shaped mirror and 210 x 310 x 7 mm for the egg-shaped mirror, symbolizing the growth period of children.

The Ducky project was developed between June 2015 and February 2016 in Zonguldak, Turkey. The designers conducted extensive research on duck anatomy, children's interaction with ducks, and the materials suitable for children's safety. The production process was simplified through plaster molding, allowing for efficient manufacturing.

Despite the creative and technical challenges faced during the design process, the Ducky project successfully overcame them. The washbasin is fixed to the floor and wall to prevent any potential damages, and the Ducky's feet are also fixed to the floor for stability. Glazing over the eyes on the toilet cistern proved to be a challenge, but the designers found a solution using a silicon template and stickers.

The Ducky project received the Iron A' Design Award in the Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design category in 2016. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Ducky set stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to creating a better world.
