MoodWear: The Future of Smart Mood Changing Clothing

Revolutionizing Fashion with Technology

The design of MoodWear is a groundbreaking exploration of the intersection between fashion design and information technology. Created by Danying Yang and Jin Zhou, this collection of smart clothing combines functionality, innovation, and high fashion to create a truly unique and immersive wearable experience.

Inspired by the desire to bring electronic power and information technologies closer to our daily lives, MoodWear aims to create garments that incorporate wearable technology in a seamless and stylish way. The designers have spent years researching and perfecting the optimum design to achieve the best performance, resulting in tailor-made clothing prototypes that are both functional and intelligent.

One of the standout features of MoodWear is its ability to change color based on the wearer's mood. Through voice stimulation, the clothing's undergarments can change color, creating a visual representation of the wearer's emotions. Powered by photovoltaic technology, the clothing is self-powered and charged by the sun, making it both sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The realization of MoodWear is made possible through the innovative use of fiber optic fabric and wearable electronic technology. Textile-based conductive strips of fabric and snap-on/off fasteners are used to create a seamless integration of LEDs, batteries, and wearable PCBs. The clothing system also incorporates voice detection and processing, allowing for precise color illumination of the LEDs as inputs to the fiber optic garment.

The MoodWear collection consists of two SMART clothing suits, each comprising an undergarment and an overcoat. These suits are available in female size UK 12 and male size UK 40, ensuring a perfect fit for a range of body types.

Operating the MoodWear clothing is simple and intuitive. The undergarment can be switched on to regulate the wearer's mood with lighting colors in the dark or at night. Additionally, the clothing features pockets that can be used to plug in mobile devices for charging, utilizing the harvested solar power.

The research and development of MoodWear took place over a span of five years at Heriot Watt University in the UK. The final collection, with its expected functions, was published in June 2012, marking a significant milestone in the fusion of fashion and technology.

MoodWear represents a significant advancement in the field of wearable technology. By seamlessly integrating design and technology, this collection of smart clothing showcases the potential for creating garments that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and interactive. The use of fiber optics and photovoltaic technologies, combined with the designers' meticulous attention to detail, has resulted in a truly innovative and captivating fashion experience.

Dr. Danying Yang holds the copyrights for the MoodWear collection, further solidifying its status as a unique and original creation. The collection has also been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Wearable Technologies Design category in 2016. This award acknowledges the collection's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, as well as its contribution to a better world through the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
