The Third Annual Sustainability Report: "Growing Together"

A Unique Design Collaboration by Chris Ng

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) recently collaborated with designer Chris Ng to create a fresh and unique layout for their third annual sustainability report. Titled "Growing Together," this report showcases AAHK's commitment to social and economic development while pursuing growth and expansion. The cover design, featuring an airport runway with a near-to-far perspective, invites readers to embark on a journey of progress and sustainability.

One of the key challenges in designing this report was presenting a considerable amount of information in an interesting and engaging manner. To overcome this, Ng and his team created numerous info-graphics that effectively communicate complex data. Throughout the report, color patches are used to create a harmonious continuity, with each chapter assigned a specialized color.

Printed on FSC-certified paper, the report measures 210mmx297mm, providing a compact and reader-friendly format. The design team, led by Creative Director Chris Ng, included Art Director Stanley Or, Account Director Kelly Sin, Senior Designer Jessica Tang, and Account Manager Stella Lee.

The "Growing Together" sustainability report serves as a channel for AAHK to communicate with stakeholders, including government sectors, business partners, staff, and the general public. By lifting its corporate transparency, AAHK reveals its core values and long-term development plans in social, economic, and environmental aspects. The report's concept, content, structure, and design have been highly praised by leading figures in the sustainable field.

This innovative and reader-friendly report was exhibited in Hong Kong in December 2016, following a project duration of April 2005 to November 2015. The design team conducted extensive research, including interviews with stakeholders, to gather information and develop ideas. The result is a visually captivating report that effectively communicates AAHK's sustainability performance and management approach during the fiscal year 2014-15.

The "Growing Together" sustainability report by Chris Ng for Airport Authority Hong Kong has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2017 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
